On 13th November 2025, complementing the third edition of the conference ‘Disruption and innovation in the marine and food industry’, a session was organised open to all those interested in the field of food biotechnology, at the ANFACO-CYTMA facilities in Galicia (Spain).
The session, which focused on innovation in the application of biotechnology to the agri-food sector, was open to companies, start-ups and scientific-technological entities. Attendees were able to learn about the experience of leading companies and entities in this field, explore innovative solutions and real applications for the agri-food industry, and identify and analyse possible collaborations. First, María José Chapela from ANFACO-CYTMA gave a presentation on the BIOTECH4FOOD project so that companies could learn how to benefit from its activities. Afterwards, Diego Rubianes from Hifas Innovation Hub, also a partner in the project, presented the company and its specific activities within BIOTECH4FOOD.
Diogo Pinto presented the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant, an independent, state-of-the-art facility located in Belgium that operates from the laboratory level to a scale of several tonnes, providing services for process development, scale-up and customised manufacturing of bio-based products and processes. Several companies located in Galicia also presented their experience in the field of food biotechnology: Elena Fontán from Orixe Salgada, Sergio Quiroga from Ecocelta Galicia S.L., and Samuel López Novoa from Néboda Farms.
The format of the session allowed attendees to interact with the various speakers, discovering innovative cases of biotechnology applications that are shaping the future of food and meeting potential partners in this field. With these activities, Biotech4Food continues its mission: to make biotechnology an important lever for the sustainability and competitiveness of the European agri-food sector.
